Xylem

چکیده
What is xylem required for? The xylem has evolved as a tissue to transport water and minerals from the roots to the tips of leaves using tubes of dead tracheary elements arranged end-toend. In addition, the xylem is required for supporting the plant body vertically on land. Thick secondary cell walls on xylem cells give the cells physical strength to help support the plant body and resist water pressure.

Energy Flow from Root to Shoot: A Comprehensive In silico Analysis
Background: Root to shoot connection and transfer of information seems to be taken place mostly via the transmissions of signal molecules, secondary metabolites, amino acids, hormones and proteins, through xylem sap. Examination of earlier reports is indicative of relatively high levels of conservation in xylem sap protein compositions. Apparently these protein molecules are be...
متن کاملRelationships among xylem transport, biomechanics and storage in stems and roots of nine Rhamnaceae species of the California chaparral.
Here, hypotheses about stem and root xylem structure and function were assessed by analyzing xylem in nine chaparral Rhamnaceae species. Traits characterizing xylem transport efficiency and safety, mechanical strength and storage were analyzed using linear regression, principal components analysis and phylogenetic independent contrasts (PICs). Stems showed a strong, positive correlation between...
متن کاملSynthesis, Characterization, Molecular Docking and Cytotoxicity Studies of Bagasse Xylem Ferulate-Acrylamide/Methyl Methacrylate Composite
BXFL (bagasse xylem ferulate)-g-AM (acrylamide)/MAA (methyl methacrylate) was synthesized based on bagasse xylan(BX)-g-AM/MAA in 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim] Cl) ion solution with Ferulic Acid (FL) as esterification agent. The various factors that were investigated influenced carboxylic acid ester substitution degree (DSC) of BXFL-g-AM/MAA. The structures of BXFL-...
متن کاملDirect and individual analysis of stress-related phytohormone dispersion in the vascular system of Cucurbita maxima after flagellin 22 treatment.
• The stress-related phytohormones, salicylic acid (SA) and abscisic acid (ABA), and the three jasmonates, jasmonic acid (JA), cis-12-oxo-phytodienoic acid (cis-OPDA), and (+)-7-iso-jasmonoyl-L-isoleucine (JA-Ile), were investigated in phloem and xylem exudates of Cucurbita maxima. • Phloem and xylem exudates were separately collected and analysed via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. • ...
متن کاملAre leaves 'freewheelin'? Testing for a wheeler-type effect in leaf xylem hydraulic decline.
A recent study found that cutting shoots under water while xylem was under tension (which has been the standard protocol for the past few decades) could produce artefactual embolisms inside the xylem, overestimating hydraulic vulnerability relative to shoots cut under water after relaxing xylem tension (Wheeler et al. 2013). That study also raised the possibility that such a 'Wheeler effect' mi...
متن کاملStructure-function constraints of tracheid-based xylem: a comparison of conifers and ferns.
The ferns comprise one of the most ancient tracheophytic plant lineages, and occupy habitats ranging from tundra to deserts and the equatorial tropics. Like their nearest relatives the conifers, modern ferns possess tracheid-based xylem but the structure-function relationships of fern xylem are poorly understood. Here, we sampled the fronds (megaphylls) of 16 species across the fern phylogeny, ...
